Biography
Born and raised in Camden, New Jersey, Tasha Smith's path to Hollywood was forged through perseverance, raw talent, and an unwavering belief in authentic storytelling. Her work — both in front of and behind the camera — carries a signature intensity that has made her one of the most respected voices in the industry.
A multifaceted actor and director, Tasha brings style and intensity to every project she touches. She first captured national attention with her breakout role as Angela in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? franchise — a character whose raw emotional honesty resonated with audiences across the country and led to the hit OWN series For Better or Worse, for which she earned an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.
From 2015 to 2020, Tasha portrayed the unforgettable Carol Holloway on Fox's landmark series Empire, cementing her place as a powerhouse dramatic actress. Her critically acclaimed performance as Ronnie Boyce in HBO's Emmy Award-winning mini-series The Corner remains one of her most celebrated roles.
Most recently, audiences have seen Tasha as Theresa in Sony's blockbuster Bad Boys: Ride or Die and as Marley on Netflix's Survival of the Thickest — proof that after three decades, her star continues to rise.

In 2015, Tasha made her directorial debut — and hasn't looked back. She is now one of television's most sought-after directors, trusted by every major network and streaming platform.
Tasha made her directorial debut with the short film Boxed In, which premiered at the 19th Annual American Black Film Festival.
Her feature directorial debut When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story premiered to 1.6 million viewers — TV One's #1 original movie premiere of all time across all key demographics. The film earned an NAACP Award nomination.
Tasha now directs episodes for the biggest shows across every major network — from CBS and ABC to Paramount+, STARZ, Peacock, and Netflix.
