The Approach

Technique-driven.
Actor-focused.

TSAW offers online, interactive acting instruction built on the Chubbuck Technique — a rigorous, twelve-step method for scene breakdown and authentic emotional access. Every class is live, every session is a genuine workshop environment, and every student receives real feedback on real work.

Scene assignments are carefully matched to each student's development level. Whether you are just beginning or have years of professional credits, there is a class designed for exactly where you are — and where you need to go. All instruction takes place in a supportive yet demanding environment rooted in mutual respect and professional standards.

Curriculum

What you'll
learn at TSAW.

TSAW's curriculum gives actors the tools they need to work at a professional level — from the inner life of the character to the confidence of the audition room.

  • Access emotional life authentically to accomplish scene objectives with specificity and truth.
  • Use objectives to drive scenes forward with purpose, direction, and genuine conflict.
  • Master scene breakdown techniques rooted in the twelve steps of the Chubbuck Method.
  • Develop confident, creative audition skills that hold up under pressure and in any room.
  • Achieve relaxation and the professional performance standards that working directors expect.

Class Levels

Every level.
One standard.

The Beginner class is designed for actors who are new to the Chubbuck Technique or who are just launching their professional careers. Students are introduced to the twelve steps methodically — learning how to break down a scene, identify their character's objective, and begin accessing genuine emotional truth through structured preparation.

This is where fundamentals are built, habits are formed, and the discipline of the craft takes root. TSAW Beginner instructors create an environment that is welcoming without being gentle — students are challenged from the very first session to work with honesty and intention.

The Intermediate-Advanced class is for actors who already have prior acting experience and a working knowledge of the Chubbuck Technique. This class demands more — more specificity, more emotional depth, more sophisticated scene analysis, and a higher standard of professional behavior in every session.

Students at this level are pushed to refine what they know, identify what they are avoiding, and expand the range and complexity of their work. Scene material is selected to challenge both technique and emotional availability.

The Master Class is reserved for advanced and professional actors with substantial credits and a fully developed technique foundation. This is not an introductory environment — students arrive having already mastered the steps and are ready to operate at the highest level of nuance, risk, and professional demand.

Work in the Master Class is held to the standard of what actually gets hired. Instructors bring decades of professional experience and expect that same commitment from every participant.

The Teen Class introduces young actors to the foundational principles of the Chubbuck Technique in an age-appropriate environment. Instruction is built around the same twelve-step method used in adult classes, tailored to the specific developmental needs and life experience of teenage actors.

The Teen Class is designed as a bridge — preparing students for the rigors of adult professional training and positioning them to transition seamlessly into the Beginner adult class when they turn 18. Note: The Teen Class is currently on hiatus. Please check back for future enrollment dates.

A note on environment: All TSAW classes operate on a foundation of mutual respect, professional conduct, and genuine support. This is not a passive learning environment — students are expected to arrive prepared, engage fully, and push themselves every session. The growth happens in that space between comfort and commitment.
